Local Agenda Members attending unit meetings and the January membership meeting agreed that the local agenda item for the coming year should be one which will give the League an opportunity to do all it can to get a new charter for the City and County of Honolulu. The Board adopted the following statement of the local agenda item: Achieving a new and adequate charter for the City and County of Honolulu. (It is believed that this allows the League to study any part of the charter not yet studied and to restudy any sections that need further study, with a view to taking action in connection with the Charter Commission and the 1957 legislature. Local agenda committee recommendations for continuing responsibilities were also adopted by the Board. These are: Securing a new City-County jail which meets the standards of a modern correctional institution providing adequate security, segregation, and rehabilitation. Replacement of the present Coroner's Office of the City and County of Honolulu with a medico-legal investigative system. The Board agreed with the committee and the membership that the continuing responsibility on parks and recreational facilities be dropped. The Local Agenda item will be voted on at the annual meeting on March 21. Members of the committee are Kay Schutte, Blanche Smith, Katherine Tyson and Marion Saunders, Chairman.
