Calendar of Events Voters Service Views Anna Lord Strauss to Speak to Local League Unit Meetings National Agenda 1954-1956 Executive Board Meeting Treasurer's Report as of Sept. 1, 1953 |
Anna Lord Strauss to Speak to Local LeagueTime: Friday evening, Sept. 18 at 7:30 P.M.
The Honolulu League is most fortunate in having Miss Anna Lord Strauss, past National League President, as its guest the week-end of September 18-20. Many Leaguers will remember Miss Strauss' visit in 1949, when she was a member of the Round-the-World Town Meeting group which visited and held seminars in the leading capitols of the world. Editor, administrator, and public spirited citizen, Miss Strauss was President of the League of Women Voters of the United States during 1944-1950. She has held many important posts in public life, among them Executive Vice Chairman of the President's Commission on Internal Security and Individual Rights, Member of the U.S. Delegation to the U.N. 6th. General Assembly in 1951 and trustee of the Committee for Economic Development. Miss Strauss is stopping in Honolulu on her return trip from Burma, Singapore, Malays, Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines as a Specialist under the Educational Exchange Program of the U.S. Department of State's International Information Administration. The September Membership Meeting will be held on Friday instead of Wednesday to coincide with Miss Strauss' visit. All members will want to take this opportunity to hear and meet with our distinguished visitor. You are especially urged to bring your friends to this meeting and to stay for the informal reception. Miss Strauss has generously offered her time while here for conferences with the Board and with Committees. Since her stay is short, the Board is arranging a schedule of meetings with committees for discussion of League matters. Other League members who wish to meet with Miss Strauss on Saturday or Sunday are invited to make an appointment through Mrs. Frederick Schutte or Mrs. Wendell Mordy. They may be contacted at the meeting on Friday evening or by telephone. NOTICE The Board invites members to make a small contribution to help defray the expense of refreshments for the reception Friday evening. The treasurer, Mrs. Meller, will be avail« able at the meeting to receive your donation. Since we hope to have many friends and guests no further mention of this will be made.
