Charter Study Group to Report to Membership Meeting Membership Opinion Wanted on Federal Aid to Education Question of Liquor in Public Parks Is Resolved National Officer to Visit Hawaii Coming Events |
Charter Study Group to Report to Membership MeetingThe September meeting will be devoted to reports by charter study group members on the three forms of local government currently in use in the United States: the mayor-council, commission, and city-manager types. The talks will be brief and informal; Leaguers will want to participate by questions and discussion. One of the items to be considered is whether our local League should support one of the three types of government or should just work for certain charter provisions without taking a stand on the form. The National platform supports the city-manager type and local leagues may not adopt a position contrary to that already arrived at on the National level. Consequently, a decision to back a particular form of local government will mean support of the city-manager type. We need not reach a decision at this meeting but the subject will be discussed and members asked to study the question preparatory to making a decision at a later date.
