Advertiser's Rob Perez to Address Sept. 18 MeetingRob Perez, Honolulu Advertiser staff writer, has been covering the recent domestic violence case involving a soldier still free three years after having been found guilty of terrorizing his wife with a semi-automatic. With Annelle Amaral, Rob Perez will brief the Women's Health & Safety committee on what can be done to protect victims of domestic violence in the face of increasing injury and death of victims. The date of the meeting at which Perez will speak is Thursday, September 18th. The meeting will take place at 11:30 AM in the League office. The agenda will also include a concurrence vote on the Hawaii Drug Policy Study and its position: The League of Women Voters of Hawaii supports measures to develop effective solutions to problems associated with drug abuse and the unintended consequences of current drug policies. These solutions should emphasize prevention, education and drug abuse treatment, which are the longest lasting and cost effective means of addressing drug abuse and its societal impacts. (Approved by a unanimous vote of the state board.) Suzanne Meisenzahl |
