Working for Clean ElectionsHawai'i Clean Elections has brought in two special guests - one from Maine and one from Arizona - to give their first-hand account of how very successful Comprehensive Public Funding has been in their two states. The guests are Ed Suslovic, former Maine Democratic Representative, and Marc Spitzer, former Arizona Republican Senate Majority Leader - now the Chair of the powerful Arizona Corporation Commission, an elected position. After MUCH effort, Majority (Democratic) caucuses were scheduled for behind closed doors in both the Senate and House on January 20 and 21. Our members were urged to communicate with their legislators the importance of attending the caucuses. In 2004, the states of Maine and Arizona ran a smooth and successful Clean Elections program. Eighty-five percent of Maine's legislative candidates and fifty-five percent of Arizona's legislative candidates ran clean; they took no private campaign contributions and have broken the ties of special interests. Join with us to make Hawai'i the next "Clean Elections" state! Laure Dillon, Executive Director
