More on Telephone TakeoverThere's been little in the news lately about Carlyle Group's takeover of our telephone company. But since I wrote about it last month, I went to see the movie "The Manchurian Candidate", a remake of the 1962 movie starring Frank Sinatra. In 1962 the shadowy all-powerful menace was Communism. In this modem remake the menace is the multinational corporation Manchurian Global. Director Jonathan Demme says in Newsweek (July 26), "Whether it's the latest article about Halliburton or Bechtel or the Carlyle Group, there's a lot of dubious activity going on. Billions of dollars are being made and, yes, lives are being lost." So let's be on the lookout for any news of the takeover of our telephone company. Pearl Johnson
