To the Editor:
With the sea of tragedy confronting the city, the primary election has been rescheduled for Sept. 25 (news article, Sept. 14). It will be tough to shift gears and vote. Our hearts are focused on recovery. But voting, like rebuilding, is an essential step in the process. In exercising our choice for elective office, we reaffirm our faith in the democratic process. President Bush has said the attack on the World Trade Center was an attack on democracy. He also said democracy cannot be destroyed by terrorism and bombs. New Yorkers have shown that to be so. We urge New Yorkers to take the next step and demonstrate that democracy is alive and well in New York City.
