Don't miss what promises to be a very
informative and interesting meeting.
The keynote speaker, Ah Quon McElrath, for the Annual Meeting this year is no stranger to the League of Women Voters. She has spoken many times in the past on various topics. She is an untiring activist on behalf of the poor, welfare recipients, and the uninsured. She has been on the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii for years now and is in a position to speak clearly on her topic of the day "Challenges for the University of Hawaii in View of the Current Political Situation." We have all been reading of the financial cutbacks to the UH and the concerns expressed by the various departments particularly affected, like the Medical School. Add to this are the concerns of Professional Assembly. All of us need be apprehensive about the future of the University of Hawaii for the citizens of the 21 Century. The business portion of the meeting which begins at 9:30 a.m. will cover the treasurer's report, the budget, the nominating committee report, the election of the officers and directors, and the current status of our various committees.
